C026793 RHODESIA HORSE VOLUNTEERS "CAPTN R.H. Perry" MEDAL GROUPING.

This is an exceptionally rare British Queen’s South Africa Medal Pair to Officer of Rhodesia Horse Volunteers. The QSA Medal is the rare Rhodesia 1896 version with very rare Mashonaland 1887 bar. Correctly inscribed to "CAPTN R.H. Perry, R.H.V." (Rhodesian Horse Volunteers) on original heavily worn ribbon with pin backing. The other medal is his Military General Service Medal with Bar Burma 1887-89, correctly inscribed 2485 Sergt R.H. Perry 21st Hussars, on original faded ribbon with original pin backing. Perry clearly served in the British Army as a Sergeant in Burma in the 21st Hussars (formerly 21st Empress of India’s) Lancers before emigrating to Rhodesia after the Burma War and being commissioned a captain in the Rhodesian Horse Volunteers. The 21st Empress of India’s Lancers were renamed the 21st Hussars from 1862 to 1897. The QSA to an officer of the Rhodesian Horse Volunteers is extremely rare, there were only 5 officers in the Mounted Troop of a very small unit (approximately 100 men). Information on the unit can be found here: http://www.keith-case.com/Matabele%20War/RHorse.htm
