



















C025895 WWI CANADIAN "16TH INFANTRY "CANADIAN SCOTTISH" BATTALION UNIFORM GROUPING.
This grouping consists of a glengarry, tam o’shanter, tunic, and kilt.
1. A black woven wool "wedge" cap has a red wool Touri (pom pom) to its crown, and black rayon edging along its base. Attached over the left front is a stamped, white metal, 16th Infantry “Scottish Battalion” badge measuring approximately 4.5cm x 6cm affixed via slider. The interior is lined, but unmarked. The swallows tails are still attached at the rear of the cap. The wool remains in good condition.
2. The Balmoral Bonnet, which is known as the Tam o'Shanter, originated in 1915, as a replacement for the Glengarry, to be worn by Scottish troops in combat. A khaki wool bonnet comprised of a crown, a body with seams to each side and the rear, and a pair of metal grommets to the rear. The interior is stamped with a War Department marking and broad arrow. A white metal badge for the 16th Infantry “Canadian Scottish” Battalion on a section of tartan is affixed to the left wearing side via lugs and cotter pin. A bent section of wire is present to the seam giving the cap a stiffer form.
3. A five button, highland cut, khaki wool tunic with “Canada” brass buttons to the front that leads to a fold over collar with a pair of hooks and eyelets to the neck opening. A pair of brass “C” over “16" collar dogs are to each collar point.
A pair of integral, button shoulder straps are to each side of the neck, along with a brass "Canadian Scottish" tiles attached via lugs and cotter pin. Formation badges for the 1st Canadian Division (Headquarters) are to each sleeve above rank chevrons denoting the rank of Sergeant. Other insignia includes four blue overseas service chevrons to right sleeve indicating between four years overseas service. All brass buttons are the Canadian General Service buttons. A pair of brass belt hooks are present to the side seams. The chest measures approximately 38". The wool shows typical wear. Nice Tunic!
4. A box pleated wool kilt in the colours of the Hunting Leslie tartan that has two leather straps with double prong buckles. No markings. The waist measures approximately 34" and 24.5" in overall length. Two green tapes are affixed to the waistband.
