C025595 THE ROYAL HIGHLANDERS OF CANADA, 13TH BN, 1ST CANADIAN DIVISION" GLENGARRY.

BACKGROUND: The Glengarry’s origins may be traced to Alasdair MacDonell (1771 1828) of Glengarry, Scotland, and was adopted by the British Infantry in 1868, and the Canadian militia in the 1870s. It was worn on dress occasions, by traditionally Scottish Infantry Regiments, during both world wars.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A black woven wool "wedge" cap has a red wool Touri (pom pom) to its crown, and black ribbed, satin edging along its base. Attached over the left front is a stamped, badge measuring approximately 6cm x 7cm affixed via lugs and cotter pin. The interior is lined, with its original paper tag that shows a size of “6 5/8", manufacture name and date of 1915. The lining has torn to the rear of the cap.
