C025488 RHODESIA SLIP-ON SHOULDER TITLES
Rare pair of national shoulder titles for Rhodesia, with black embroidery on red felt backing. These devices slipped over the shoulder straps of some element of the British 8th Army (usually the South African division) to denote the soldier’s origins in the British colony of Rhodesia. The white male population of Rhodesia before and during WWII was quite small, so to prevent the male population from being decimated in the war (and prevent the appearance of using the men of the Commonwealth colonies as cannon fodder, as was the case in World War I), Great Britain was careful to limit the number of Rhodesians in combat units in WWII. This pair of slip-ons is in very good condition, mismatched but always together as a pair. They measure approximately 6.5cm x 2cm.
