C024890 VIETNAM WAR ERA U.S. M-1 COMBAT HELMET WITH MITCHELL CAMOUFLAGE COVER.

Vietnam War Early M1 Combat Helmet with Mitchell Cover in superb condition. One of the best examples of an early Vietnam War M1 I have seen. All original to the 1968 period: 1968 contract dated Mitchell pattern camouflage cover with the "shallow flaps" associated with the early production from this contract. (Later covers made under this contract have deeper scallops or longer flaps.) Original Vietnam elastic fabric band in OD green secures the cover to the shell. Model P55 liner with textbook markings. Soldier’s ID "W-6803" written on the leather of the blond leather sweatband. 1967-dated nape strap at the base of the neck. Complete with the brown leather chinstrap affixed to the liner, secured over the front rim of the helmet. Chinstrap has the typical black hardware fittings of the post-WW2 chinstraps. Cover fits very tightly to the shell and the helmet appears to be an untouched bring back from the war circa 1968. Hard to upgrade.
