C024493 FRENCH 150TH INFANTRY OF THE LINE CHIEF SERGEANT’S UNIFORM GROUPING.

This grouping consists of M1938 tunic, trousers, belt, suspenders, ammunition pouches, bayonet frog and M1935 canteen.

1. The tunic has a seven "rounded" button front that leads to a lay down collar with a pair of hooks and eyelets at the neck opening. A pair of button shoulder straps are to each side of the collar. Hip pockets and French cuffs complete the construction of the tunic. A pair of badges are to each collar point that represent the 150th Infantry Regiment (150 e. RI). An enamel triangular badge also representing the 150th is to the front left facing breast. To each arm are Chief Sergeant rank badges. The interior is lined in a white linen that bear various cartouches or stamping. A pair of brass belt hooks are to each side seam. The chest measures approximately 38".

2. The matching trousers have a three button French fly, with an additional two buttons at the waist, four wool belt loops and four buttons along the exterior of the waistband for the attachment of suspenders. The buttons appear to have been replaced to the fly, while others appear to have original thread. The trousers are un-lined with the exception of the waistband that shows various ink stamps. The waist measures approximately 38" with a 34.5" breech. To each leg is a friction buckle adjustment strap, as well as seven, reinforced stitched holes for laces. The wool shows wear to each cuff.

3. A roughly 5.5cm x 111cm long brown leather belt with an open rectangular, dual claw, steel roller belt buckle. The buckle is held in place by a folded over, stitched, section of the belt with two brass rivets. The opposite end of the belt has a beveled, flat tip and twlelve pairs of punched, parallel buckling holes. The sliding leather belt loop is absent. Ink stamps are visible to the underside. Leather remains strong.

4. A set of brown leather "Y" straps with a circular ring painted black from which three leather straps extend from and are secured by rivets and thread. "J" hooks are present, as well as a black leather trapezoid belt loop. The two front straps measure approximately 68cm long while the rear strap measures approximately 37cm. Ink stamps are visible to the underside. Shows typical usage and wear with the leather still supple.

5. A pair of brown leather pouches with tabs that correspond to brass studs to the front panel. To the reverse, are reinforced stitched suspension tabs that end in twisted wire suspension hooks. A leather trapezoid section of leather is attached via twine. Markings are visible under one of the flaps.

6. The brown leather sword frog measures approximately 23.5cm long with a reinforced stitched loop to the reverse to allow for a belt to pass through.

7. The M1935 tin-plated steel canteen is covered in a brown wool with an adjustable leather strap and leather stitching to one side to allow for the removal. The cork stopper is missing. The canteen measures approximately 8.5cm x 18.5cm x 22.5cm. The wool shows wear with moth holes.
