C024395 MARK II STEN SUBMACHINE GUN QUICK LOADER.

BACKGROUND: The Sten submachine gun took its name from the initials of the surnames of its designers, Shepherd and Turpin, and the Enfield factory where it was originally produced. Designed in 1941, using ideas from both the German MP 28 and MP 40, it was simple to manufacture and had a blowback system using a heavy bolt and strong return spring. The Mark II was further simplified and became the most widely distributed version; used not only by the British and their commonwealth satellites but also by resistance movements throughout Europe. There were four models of speed loaders made for the Sten although only the MarkII and the MarkIV were available during the war.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This MarkII, early mid-war, speed loader is made of stamped folded steel that has been blued to protect it from rust. One side has a steel spring clip that was used to hold it on the 32 round magazine. Attached to the top on a pin between two posts is a machined piece of brass with a with a finger hole that was used as a lever to compress the spring and thereby allow a cartridge to be loaded. The loader is in good condition with some scratches, wear marks and some minor surface spotting due to it being used. A broad arrow marking is visible on finger hole.
