C023588 BRITISH WWI "Named" VICTORY MEDAL 1914.
BACKGROUND: The Victory Medal or Allied Medal has a basic design and ribbon that was adopted by the Allied Nations and issued to those who had received the 1914 Star, the 1914-1915 Star or the British War Medal. It was never awarded on it’s own.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A die struck copper medal with a bronze finish measures approximately 37mm in diameter featuring the figure of Victory with her left arm extended while holding a palm branch in the other. The reverse has the inscription "The Great War for Civilization 1914-1919." The ribbon has a rainbow washed design that blends from purple to blues, greens, yellows and oranges out again. The ribbon has some fraying to the edges but the colors are still quite vibrant. There is no pin backing present. The inscription to the rim reads "2425 Sowar Saiden Shah. 17 CAVY". Private (Sowar) Saiden Shah served in the 17th Cavalry, Indian Army. The ribbon is in near pristine condition.
