C022489 "ROYAL 22 REGIMENT CANADA "SHOULDER FLASH.

BACKGROUND: The regiment was formed early during the First World War as volunteers from across Canada massed in Valcartier Quebec for training. The first French speaking unit was the "22nd (French Canadian) Infantry Battalion CEF" that went to France where the unit was broken up to provide reinforcements. In April 1920, a new Regiment was formed using veterans of the 22nd Battalion and in 1921, King George V renamed the Regiment bestowing them the title "Royal." The nickname of the 22e is the "Van Doos" which is from "Ving-deux" which is 22 in French.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A canvas, tri colour flash of blue, yellow and red, with "Royal 22e Regiment" printed to the yellow section. Shoulder flash measures approximately 12.5cm x 4cm.
