C021389 CANADIAN WWI "Named" BRITISH WAR MEDAL 1914-1918.

BACKGROUND: This medal was instituted in 1919. It was issued to British and Imperial forces for service between August 5, 1914 and November 11, 1918. Officers and men of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, as well as Dominion and Colonial naval forces were to have completed 28 days mobilized service.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A silver 3.5cm silver medal suspended from a non rotating silk ribbon in royal blue, black, white and orange. The colors of the ribbon are still quite vibrant. The medal features the profile of King George V. with the inscription "George V. omnipotent King of Great Britain and Emperor of India" to the border. The reverse shows St. George on horseback holding a short sword trampling the shield of Prussia as well as a skull and crossbones. "1914" and "1918" are to the outside. The inscription "2125016 Cpl. A.W. McKee, C.R.T. The medal shows darkening due to age, but this enhances the details nicely. Overall, shows the expected light age toning, while the ribbon is in pristine condition.
