C020493 U.S. VIETNAM WAR M-1 HELMET WITH CAMOUFLAGE COVER.

Early M-1 Vietnam helmet circa 1965, with a late World War 2 era steel shell with rear seam and swivel bales, Korean War era liner and leather chinstrap. 1965-dated Mitchell pattern camouflage cover with original early elastic retaining band. The cotton cover is tight against the steel shell everywhere, and indication of having been wet and dried many times in theater from rainfall. Elastic cover retaining band has a name written in Bic pen which is now largely illegible to the naked eye ("Sharr…") Nice, clean early Vietnam period leather sweatband and snap-in rear nape strap. Underneath the elastic strap is a period bottle of GI-issue insecticide ("bug juice") with some original contents intact. Outstanding, complete untouched early Vietnam War helmet.
