C019192 5th BATTALION YORK & LANCASTER REGIMENT UNIFORM GROUPING "John George Edmund Rideal".
A three piece grouping belonging to John George Edmund Rideal that consists of a Full Dress Tunic, vest and Dress Mess Tunic. The eight, brass button Full Dress Tunic of red wool, leads to a stand up collar, twisted bullion, button shoulder straps with white cuffs. Bi-metal collar insignia for all battalions featuring a rose upon the back of a tiger, while the shoulder boards, with two pips, denote the rank of Lieutenant. The white cuffs are trimmed in lace. The interior is fully lined in white silk that also bears a manufacture tag that reads "F.W. Flight Military Outfitter, Winchester & Aldershot" along with a handwritten name "Lieu Rideal". All brass buttons are Regimental buttons for the York & Lancaster Regiment. The chest measures approximately 34". The dress mess tunic, also of red wool, features a pair of white wool lapels that each bear a bullion badges for the regiment, as well as rank crown that is attached via lugs and cotter pin to the shoulder strap that represents the rank of Major. A white manufacture tag, identical to that of the full dress tunic, has the handwritten name "2nd Lt. J.G. Rideal". The chest measures approximately 34". The matching vest shows a little more wear that the mess dress tunic. Also included is a waist sash, and an additional six 1.5cm diameter buttons on original cardboard with paper. Lastly, are written and photocopied information and photographs on Mr. Rideal and his career that spanned both World Wars. He was the recipient of a DSO and was mentioned in dispatches three times.
