C018785 U.S. M1832 FOOT ARTILLERY SWORD.

A 64cm (overall length) sword with a feather pattern hilt with a stamped Federal eagle on both sides of the rounded pommel. The hilt measures approximately 15cm long with a 107mm wide cross guard (outside) and a 49cm long fullered blade. The cross guard is marked with U.S. Army Inspector mark "W.A.T." for William Anderson Thortan (1840-1869), while a faint "J.C.B." mark is seen on one side of the tang. The blade shows moderate/heavy use, wear, oxidation and some pitting. The blade has some oil/grease residue. Included is a small 4cm x 7cm scabbard and white leather frog section. The strap to the reverse of the frog is held in place by stitching to the top of the strap.
