C018193 U.S. M1910 ENTRENCHING TOOL WITH COVER.

The spade, which measures approximately 58cm in overall height, is comprised of a slightly pointed metal head with riveted metal tangs extending from its horizontal base, following the contours of its vertical wooden handle front and back. "US" may be seen impressed to the inside tang. A similarly riveted metal tang to the base of the vertical handle fixes a short, horizontal wooden handle to it. "US" is impressed to the vertical wooden handle, between the sets of tangs. The two-piece, light olive drab webbed canvas carrier is open along its base, has a webbed loop to its upper reverse with an alloy belt hook, a webbed strap with an alloy tip extending diagonally downward from the left base of the obverse, and, to the right base, a shorter webbed strap, extending diagonally downward in the opposite direction as the previous strap, with a blackened alloy adjustment buckle. "U.S." is ink stamped to the center of the obverse and "Brauer Bros. Mfg. Co. 7-18" is ink stamped beneath the belt hook to the reverse. Note Stamped on the end of the shovel grip is the U.S ordinance “bomb” insignia , which denotes scarce pre-War or early War manufacture”
