C017790 U.S. ARMY VIETNAM WAR "BLUE DIAMOND DEVILS" BLACK BERET.

This beret was worn only by men of the U.S. Army 121st Aviation Company operating from Soc Trang in the Mekong Delta. The unit went by the name Vikings and flew attack helicopters with their company insignia showing a stylized Viking in a blue diamond-shaped patch painted on the nose. Hanoi propaganda radio once referred to them as the "Blue Diamond Devils of the Delta," a sobriquet which the unit happily adopted. The beret has the blue diamond patch sewn on the right side, with the hand-embroidered words "Blue Diamond Devils of the Delta" sewn above. Size 56. Extremely rare piece of Vietnam War headgear worn only by one Army company; only a few examples survive today.
