C017189 RCAF FLIGHT OFFICER SERVICE DRESS TUNIC.

An air force blue wool three-quarter length tunic that is fully lined in blue silk. It features a open stepped collar with three large RCAF buttons approximately 2.5cm in diameter while the topmost button of the same size has an eagle with crown to it. It is tapered and belted at the waist for a more tailored look. A pair of pleated patch breast pockets have pointed flaps with a medium RCAF button (approximately 1.5cm in diameter). Two large bellow patch pockets are to each hip and have a square flap held down with RCAF buttons also 1.5cm in diameter. There is a split to the rear as well as a custom pocket for a watch on the outside of the jacket that is concealed by the waist belt. The belt has a dual-pronged brass buckle with a vertical retaining loop beyond it and the right end has three sets of corresponding doubled eyelets to it. The belt is attached to the rear of the tunic. A set of embroidered RCAF wings are sewn above the left breast pocket, while wool "Canada" shoulder titles are sewn below each shoulder seam. The interior is fully lined with three pockets. The interior is unmarked. The chest measures approximately 38".

Of Note. Tunic is ID'd too. P/O/P Harold William Clarke from Winnipeg, reported missing over North Sea Jan. 21/42, officially declared dead in August 1942. Pilot/ Officer Harold Clarke was the pilot of a Handley Page Hampden Bomber #X3051 of RCAF #408 Goose Squadron, other 3 crew members were in the RAF. They went missing returning from a night bombing operation over Bremer, Germany. This is his second flying tunic it is not named which was returned to his parents. I have his cap and dress Tunic which is named on an inside pocket. I have quite a bit of correspondence sent by the Air Ministry to his parents, regarding his missing in action and eventual declaration that he is dead, plus the list of his personal property and clothes returned to his parents from the UK.
