C017091 CANADIAN WWII MEMORIAL CROSS.
The silver Cross, which is 31mm x 31mm is suspended by a bar. At the top of the cross there is a relief of a crown, while at the foot, and at the center, it is framed by a wreath of laurel, the royal cipher "GVIR" Is engraved. Maple leafs are to three arms of the cross. The number, rank and name of the soldiers commemorated is engraved on the back of the cross "SGT. OBSERVER, L.J. MACDONALD R. 95565". The reverse is also marked "Sterling". The medal is suspended from an enamel and silver Observers winged badge with simple hinge pin to the reverse. Of Note: Sgt. Observer Louis John MacDonald died at the age of 21 on September 26, 1942 from cattarhal jaundice. He is laid to rest at Troqueer Cemetery, United Kingdom. He was originally from Ottawa Canada.
