C016088 DEACTIVATED SOVIET PPSh-41 SUBMACHINE GUN (Inert/Deactivated).
BACKGROUND: The PPSh-41 (Pistolet Pulyemot Shpagin [Model] - 1941) was designed by Georgi Shpagin, who had previously distinguished himself with the design of the rotary feed mechanism adopted by many Soviet weapons of the period, initially as an answer to the Finnish Suomi submachine-gun, and then, with more immediacy, in response to the German invasion. It was simpler and cheaper to manufacture than its predecessors, particularly the PPD-40, and had a more accurate and higher rate of fire (at 900 rounds per minute). From mid-1942 until the end of the war over five million of them were produced, with entire battalions often being equipped with them, and it has been said that the PPSh-41 played as important a role in the Soviet victory over Germany as did their T-34 tank.
