C014892 "VETERANS GUARD OF CANADA" SHOULDER FLASH.

BACKGROUND: The Veterans Guard of Canada (VGC) was established in May of 1940 as a special corps of First World War Veteran’s to be used for guard duties where needed. Due to their experience, they were an asset to the home front. Their responsibilities included: guarding internment camps, cable stations, oil refineries, bridges and many other similar sites. Although the age limit was forty-nine, older men were accepted which allowed younger military personnel to serve overseas.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A red wool, machine embroidered badge that in yellow thread forms "Veteran Guard of Canada." It is approximately 12cm x 2cm that has original backing in place. Appears to have been removed from a uniform.
