C011292 BRITISH WWI No. 5 MKII SIGNALING TELESCOPE WITH TRI-POD.

BACKGROUND: By using a telescope as a receiving instrument, heliographs could be spaced out of long distances. The MkIII was used from 1903-1915. The MkIII did have some problems. To extend the telescope you must unlatch the straps between the end caps, which you can withdraw if you have given yourself slack on the sling strap. It is very heavy for hand holding You also had to ensure good cover to use the stand and it had a very small field view.
