C010992 BRITISH 1853 PATTERN SOCKET BAYONET & SCABBARD.

Nickel/silver plated, (43cm) or 17" long, tapering triangular blade with fullers to all three sides. Plating shows minor surface spotting and tarnish. Blade marked with stamped "E" , King’s Crown and "24". The socket, with a screw adjustable bracket, retains a matte grey finish and shows moderate surface spotting. Blackened leather scabbard has a stitched edge seam and brass fittings to both the top and bottom. Top fitting has its retaining lug intact. The bottom fitting retains all three of its attachment rivets. The scabbard is broad arrow "WD" (War Department) marked. Of Note: The M1853 Enfield rifle, socket bayonet, was used from 1860 to 1866 and was later replaced by post 1866 scabbards used principally on Snider Rifles.
