BACKGROUND:
The 8 Canadian Reconnaissance Regt. of the 14th Canadian Hussars was the reconnaissance arm of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division during WW2, but was not with them during D-Day. It was not until one month after that the regiment first entered combat as infantry in the on-going Battle of Normandy. The 8 Reece was formed in Southern England in 1914 by amalgamating three existing squadrons. * Reece had it’s roots in the 14th Canadian Light Infantry which was a militia unit formed in 1920 from the merging of the 27th Light Horse and 14th Canadian Mounted Rifles. It was headquartered in Swift Current SK. Their motto was "First In, First Out."PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A two piece maple leaf shaped cap badge that measures approximately 5.5cm x 5cm with a pair of lugs to the reverse. Shows usage and wear to the surface.
