C008395 WW2 ALLIED ESCAPE AND SURVIVAL “BUTTON” COMPASS.

Typical tiny survival and escape compass carried by aircrews secreted in the uniform to aid in evasion if downed behind enemy lines. Sometimes hidden disguised inside common objects, like uniform buttons, hence the name “button compass” so they would not be confiscated in the event of capture but could be used in the event of escape. Still works, cardinal points marked N, S, E and W. No markings. Scarce. Measures approximately 17mm in diameter.
