C008276 COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL OF THE UNITY OF ITALY.
BACKGROUND: Italian unification (Risorgimento) was a social movement that brought together different states of the Italian peninsula into the single state of the Kingdom of Italy. The medals were representative of the three Kings who ruled during this process. These medals were awarded by the Kingdom of Italy to those who participated in the military operations that lead to Italian independence and later all those who participated in WWI. This particular medal was instituted on August 18, 1940.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 3cm diameter bronze medallion featuring the profile of Vittorio Emanuele III to the front and is inscribed "Unita D’Italia 1848-1922" to the reverse. The ribbon, or red, white and green, is suspended from a fixed loop.
