C008063 BRITISH ANTI-AIRCRAFT COMMAND SLEEVE BADGE.

BACKGROUND: Originally consisting of five anti-aircraft divisions of Royal Artillery, the Anti-Aircraft Command headquarters was formed at RAF Stanmore on the 1st of April, 1939. With General Sir Alan Brooke in command two more divisions were formed by the summer. He was replaced after four months at the post by the man who would remain the General Officer Commanding until the end of the war, General Sir Frederick Pile. When operational command of the all the air defenses was taken over by the A.O.C.-in-C. (Air Officer Commander in Chief) of RAF Fighter Command, Air Chief Marshall Sir Hugh Dowding, the two men worked together in the defense of Great Britain.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A patch of red wool cloth, about 5cm square, with a forearm and hand holding a drawn bow and arrow pointed skyward, printed to the center in black. To the reverse are remnants of glue and paper which indicate it has been removed from a scrapbook. There are some mothing to the front, but otherwise this is a nice example.
