C007864 RPG 43 H.E.A.T. STICK GRENADE TRAINING MANUAL.

BACKGROUND: The RPG 43 H.E.A.T. (High Explosive Anti-Tank) grenade was entered into service in 1943 replacing the RPG 40 that used a simpler H.E. (High Explosive) war head. It was found that as WWII progressed, the RPG 40 was less effective against the German Panther and Tiger tanks. The RPG 43 has a 9.5cm H.E.A.T. warhead containing 612g of TNT. When thrown, a metal cone that is held in place by fabric strips at the rear of the grenade to stabilize the throw and increase the changes of a 90 degree hit. The range was only limited by the person’s throwing ability. Being smaller than similar weapons meant having the advantage of producing no sound, smoke or light when launched. Also, because it was shorter, meant that the user was more likely to be spotted when throwing as they had to get within throwing range. It would also have to hit hard enough to activate the impact fuse or it would harmlessly bounce off the tank.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 17cm x 12cm, 24 page instruction manual on the use of the RPG 43 Stick Grenade. There are various illustrations on the usage. The pages show yellowing, typical of age, but overall is a nice example.
