C007495 U.S. 20TH TASS PATCH.

The 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron was formed at Da Nang in November 1965 as part of the 505th Tactical Control Squadron and flew Specter gunships primarily in support of Special Forces. The 20th TASS had outposts at various Special Operations, Forward Op's Base camps, notably Khe Sanh, Dong Ha, Quang Tri, Hue and Kham Duc. This piece from their base at Pleiku and operations over the I Drang Valley. The Squadron operated throughout CTZ I, the most northern allied sector of South Vietnam, over the DMZ and into North Vietnam and Laos. Using COVEY as their call sign (Covey for Covert Operations) the 20th would later base themselves at Pleiku and Chu Lai. The 20th TASS were de activated in 1973. Japanese made patch. Uniform removed. Measures approximately 6.5cm x 8.5cm.
