C006588 "179TH CAMERON HIGHLANDERS OF CANADA" GLENGARRY.

BACKGROUND: The Glengarry’s origins may be traced to Alasdair MacDonell (1771-1828) of Glengarry, Scotland, and was adopted by the British Infantry in 1868, and the Canadian militia in the 1870s. It was worn on dress occasions, by traditionally Scottish Infantry Regiments, during both world wars.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A black woven wool "wedge" cap has a red wool Touri (pom-pom) to its crown, and black leather edging along its base. Attached over the left front is a stamped, badge measuring approximately 5cm x 5cm affixed via lugs and cotter pin. The interior is lined, but unmarked. The swallows tails have been cut/torn off the rear of the cap. Note this example has the RARER of the two variations of the cap badge, at the 6 o'clock position it has a Dot and No Crossed Boughs, this variation can be verified in The Charlton Standard Cataloque of First World War Canadian Infantry Badges page 289.
