C005495 U.S. M1 GARAND BAYONET.

A blued bayonet with black bakelite grips and an olive drab metal and composite material scabbard. Its 24.5cm or 9 3/4", single edged blade, with a swedge and long fullers. Blade has been sharpened. To the reverse ricasso is stamped "U.F.H" (Union Fork and Hoe) underneath of which is "U." and "S." flanking a circle ringed by another circle, with four waving lines radiating above it, which may represent a flaming bomb. Also stamped is the date "1942". The blued cross guard has a muzzle ring to its upper extension, and a spring loaded locking button to the lower side. Its horizontally ribbed bakelite grips are fixed by a counter sunk screw. To the end of the hilt is a bird’s head shaped pommel. The 28cm or 11 3/16" scabbard has a metal throat, painted olive drab, to the obverse of which is stamped a flaming bomb with "U.S." within it. The top of the throat extends backwards and wraps around a metal wire belt hook. Short, hooked posts are to either side of the scabbard opening, which mate with the depressions to the cross guard, that to the left engaging the aforementioned locking button.
