C005389 MAJOR-GENERAL "Harold Hounsell" ROYAL ARTILLERY BATTLEDRESS TUNIC.
A wool battledress with four matching buttons that heads to a laydown collar. A pair of Brigadier collar badges are sewn to each collar point. A pair of integral button shoulder straps are present with Major-General rank insignia . Each sleeve also bears a shoulder flash for the British Anti-aircraft command. Above the left breast are two hand sewn rows with seven ribbon bars. The represent, beginning with the top row (left to right) is the Companion Most Honourable Order of Bath, the British Empire Medal (Military). The second row (left to right) is the 1st Army British Commonwealth Africa Star, the Italy Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal with Oak Leaf and a U.S. Bronze Star ribbon bar. There are pleated patch pockets to each breast, whose scalloped flaps have button closures. The outside seam slashes at the pleated cuffs also have single, hidden button closures. An integral belt, with a nickel-silver buckle and vertical wool retaining loop on its opposite side, is to the waistband. The back has multiple pleats to it above the waistband. The interior is unlined with a pair of horizontal slash breast pockets and shoulder padding. The chest measures approximately 44". Not named inside but he is the only Anti-Aircraft Command officer to receive a Bronze star. The insignia is period attached, but it appears he continued to add to the ribbon bars until his retirement in 1952. Very nice tunic.
