C003494 USAAF BULLION SHOULDER FLASH.

BACKGROUND: Approved on the 19th of March, 1942, the sleeve insignia of the Army Air Force was worn by personnel who were not assigned to a numbered Air Force. Of Note: Orange and blue were the colors of the Army Air Force and the star was the symbol that was used to mark aircraft in the early stages of the war.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A bullion, oval patch, about 6.5cm in diameter with gold wings (in the full style) above a silver five pointed star with a red circular center all on a blue wool background, with a bullion thread border.
