Awarded from 1898 to 1899, this medal was presented extensively to the US National Guard who had been "federalized" for active duty for Homeland Defense. The 32mm bronze medallion is suspended from an original ribbon with simple hinge pin to the reverse. To the rim is the number "1115" which has been attributed to Major Rice Ballard Trigg from Glasglow Kentucky. Mr. Ballard also was a member of the Kentucky Senate from the 19th District under Governor Stanley.
