C001389 CO-BELLIGERENT (1944-1948) ITALIAN ARMY PARATROOPER BERET.

A sand tan cotton beret with light brown leather trim as worn by Italian "Folgore" Parachute Regiment paratroopers at the end of WW2 fighting for the Allies and also in the immediate postwar period. Silk lining, no insignia. The sand tan color was a holdover from the pre-1944 period when the Folgore Regiment wore the sand tan beret in North Africa as part of the Afrika Korps. The "Co-Belligerent" force period from 1944 to 1945 occurred when part of the Italian Army went over to the Allies after the fall of King Emmanuelle. The regiment switched beret colors in 1948 to the traditional NATO maroon for Airborne forces. Smaller head size, in excellent condition but shows period wear.
