L024167 ARTILLERY/BICYCLE RUCKSACK. (Rucksack)
BACKGROUND: During the war the early M34 and M39 "pony fur" backpacks were found to be expensive and time consuming to produce which resulted in the production of a wide variety of less expensive canvas construction combat rucksacks and backpacks.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Woven, Luftwaffe blue/grey canvas construction rucksack, with blackened and tanned leather with metal fittings, is roughly 47cm tall, 30cm wide with 12cm side panels. The rucksack features a fold over top flap, with a horizontal stitched seam to the reverse and a vertical, stitched on, blackened leather closure strap to the front. The vertical closure strap affixes to a leather reinforced, pronged, alloy metal, roller buckle which is situated on the front center of the rucksack body. One of the leather straps has broken on the buckle, but the other still holds it nicely in place. Stitch marks from something being removed, not sure what. The top opening of the rucksack has the original closure drawstring still intact. The reverse of the rucksack has two metal alloy "D" rings reinforced by two blackened leather swivel fittings. The bottom edge of the rucksack has corresponding fittings for carrying straps with a leather reinforced quick release hook to either side. Nice Rbnr marking.
