L023660 REMEMBRANCE CARD. (Erinnerungskarten)
BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, was the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 4 1/8" x 2 3/4", light weight, card stock, remembrance card with black printed script and a close-up, black and white photograph of an Unteroffizier wearing a flight blouse. The visible uniform details include the collar tabs. The script indicates that the individual died at eight o’clock in the morning in a sandpit after a long night of battle in "Gugelwitz" near, "Liegnitz", on, "8. 2. 1945". The card is in overall very good condition with minor age yellowing and some minor wrinkling.
