L019586 PHOTOGRAPH POSTCARD.
A 9cm x 13.5cm, black and white photograph of Luftwaffe pilot’s wife or girlfriend wearing his uniform. The so-called "Frau in Uniform" genre of portraits began in WW1 as a way of shaming men into joining the German Army. It later became a trend in WW2 for wives and girlfriends to wear the man’s uniform, perhaps as a good-luck charm. In this photo, she is seen wearing his full lieutenant’s uniform, including his Frontflugspange, EK1, Sport Badge and the EKII ribbon in the buttonhole.
