L013190 MECHANIC/GROUND CREW COVERALLS. (Arbeitsschutzanzug)

BACKGROUND: Special protective and work uniforms, including headgear, were introduced on April 4TH 1936 for wear by technical and mechanical ground crew personnel when performing their duties in order to maintain their service uniforms from excessive wear and tear. Originally these work uniforms were produced in black until mid-1937 when the color was changed to dark blue. In May 1942 with the establishment of the civilian Heimatflakbatterien, (Home Flak Batteries), serving personnel were also issued the protective coveralls for wear when on duty.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: One piece, pull over, blue cotton/rayon construction coveralls with an HBT, (Herring Bone Twill), weave. The coveralls feature an eight button, vertical, front closure running from the crotch to the neck with a single metal hook and eye at the front center of the lay down collar. The front closure has a small overlapping panel on the left hand side which results in hiding the buttons when closed to insure they didnít catch on anything. The breast panels have each have a vertical, tapering dart and the right breast has a patch pocket with a straight edged button down flap. Chest size 38. All original buttons and stitching.
