L011784 LUFTWAFFE SIGNAL BUGLE.

WW2 German Luftwaffe Signal Bugle. Both the German Army and Air Force used traditional signal horns or bugles (sometimes referred to as hunting horns) for ceremonial purposes and apparently occasionally also on the battlefield. This brass bugle with silvered bell is marked Meinel & Herold Klingenthal (Saxony) in and is in very good condition with considerable age patina and some small surface scratches and slight superficial dents on the bell tube. Original brass mouthpiece is present and attached to the bugle body with a brass chain. The firm of Meinel & Herold was founded in 1893 and was one of the most famous makers of musical instruments. After WW2, it was in the Eastern (communist) zone of Germany and went out of business. The bugle is wrapped in the correct manner with Luftwaffe blue-grey wool wrapping on the lower portion as seen in period photographs. Two rings affixed to the bugle made carry with a leather strap possible. Originally there were larger brass rings that went through the small rings near the mouthpiece and the bell, both of which are missing.
