BACKGROUND: Special protective and work uniforms, including headgear, were introduced on April 4TH 1936 for wear by technical and mechanical ground crew personnel when performing their duties in order to maintain their service uniforms from excessive wear and tear. The design of the cap was based on the standard issue Fliegermütze, (Flyer’s Cap), with a different coloration and material composition. The introductory regulations indicated that the Luftwaffe eagle was to be applied to the cap but the national tri-color cockade was not.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Black rayon/cotton blend construction overseas style cap with an HBT, (Herring Bone Twill), weave. The cap features fold down side and back panels with gently sloping, downward scallops to the front and forward sides. The front center of the cap has a machine embroidered, second pattern Luftwaffe eagle in silver/grey threads on a cut-out black wool base. The eagle is neatly handstitched to cap. As per regulations no national tri-color cockade was applied. The interior of the cap is fully lined in ribbed cotton/rayon twill. Size marked 55.
