L002695 GERMAN AFRIKA KORPS LUFTWAFFE PILOT’S NUMBERED “BLOOD CHIT.” 

This pocket sized green booklet was the Luftwaffe equivalent of the Allied “blood chit” for downed pilots. Because local Arab populations were largely sympathetic to Germany, downed German airman behind Allied lines in North Africa could often count on local Arabs to help them evade capture and return to their own lines if they could establish who they were. These little serial numbered booklets were issued to pilots before each operational flight with Arabic text explaining the identity of the flier and requesting help from civilians. This one is serial numbered 2030 and appears to have been issued three times. Extremely rare!
