K022856 KNIGHT'S CROSS WINNER PHOTOGRAPH. (Photographie)

A 2 3/4" x 3 7/8", black and white photograph of an officer wearing a blue-topped cap with decoration along its visor (as used by those of Commodore and Admiral ranks), and a matching, double breasted reefer jacket. Pinned to the left breast of the jacket is a 1914 Iron Cross, first class, above which is pinned the 1939 "Spange" for it, with a seven place ribbon bar above that. He wears a Knight’s Cross at his throat. To the reverse is ink stamped what must be the developer’s name and address, as well as, handwritten in pencil beneath an erased pencil annotation, "Ruge, Fried" and, beneath that, "Ruge, Friedrich." "Kapitän zur See" and "Kommodore" Friedrich Ruge was in charge of "Minensuchboote West" (Minesweepers West) when he was awarded his Knight’s Cross, in October of 1940. Light age yellowing is evident throughout, and there is a crease to the lower right corner of the obverse.
