K004592 FÜHRER AND REICHS CHANCELLOR'S STANDARD. (Standarte des Führers und Reichskanzlers)
BACKGROUND: The use of flags and standards as an identifying symbol for high ranking personnel was an old German military tradition and was continued through-out the Third Reich era. When President Paul von Hindenburg died in August 1934 the Standarte des Reichspräsidenten, was retired and a new standard was introduced for the sole personal use by Adolf Hitler. The Führerstandarte came in assorted sizes for use in different situations and was only flown when Hitler was personally present.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly 100cm x 100cm, dual sided, woven linen standard with a printed image. The standard features a red base field with black/white/black outer border trim. Centered on the red field is a white circular field with a black static swastika with a white and black striped outer border, encompassed by a golden yellow circular oak-leaf wreath with tan accents. Each corner of the red field has a golden yellow eagle with the Wehrmacht styled eagle with down swept wings to the upper right and lower left corners and a political style national eagle with out-stretched wings to the opposite two corners. The printed image is identical to both sides. The white bunting hoist edge has a tunnel looped suspension rope with stitched attachment loops to both the top and bottom corners. The hoist edge bunting is well marked with black inkstamped designation abbreviation "Sta. d. Führers" and dimensions in meters, "1 x 1". Nice KM marking. The standard is in overall very good condition with some small holes and minor age and usage toning. Scarce!
