K003391 REMEMBRANCE CARD. (Erinnerungskarten)
BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Light weight, bi-fold remembrance card with printed script and a close-up black and white photograph of Richard and Hans Schneider. Richard Schneider was a "Feldwebel (Sergeant) in a grenadier regiment, owner of the E.K. I and II, the Inf.-Sturm. Badge, the German cross in gold and other awards. He died on August 22, 1943 during heavy fighting in the East at the age of 29." Hans Schneider as a "Maichinen-obermate at a Minesweeping, owner of the E.K. II and the minesweeping badge. He died on January 4, 1944 after 7 years of service at the age of 26 1/2 during his work leave due to bombing."
