K001793 U-BOAT EMERGENCY BREATHING APPARATUS. (Tauchretter)
BACKGROUND: The U-boat emergency breathing apparatus was originally developed for U-boat crews for emergency escapes and was also used in training divers and in conjunction with the midget submarines. The apparatus supplied oxygen to the wearer and also acted as a buoyant life preserver.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This rubberized, multi-piece, reddish/brown ribbed canvas construction breathing apparatus with nickel/silver plated metal alloy fittings. All complete and in very nice condition (Including the oxygen bottle and breathing hose). Some hole patch repairsOf Note: See J.R. Angolia & A. Schlicht’s book, "Die Kriegsmarine", volume II, pages 302-3 for photographic examples of this type of breathing apparatus. Super hard to find & beautiful condition.
