K001290 OFFICER'S BREAST EAGLE. (Hoheitsabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: The Kriegsmarine adopted wear of the new national eagle on the front of the headgear and the right breast of the uniform on March 24TH 1934. This particular removable metal style of eagle was worn on a variety of garments as opposed to the army version which was only worn with the white summer tunic.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Stamped zinc national eagle with spread wings and a gold washed finish. Wingspan is roughly 9.5cm from tip to tip. Eagle shows nice detailing and reverse is a mirror image of obverse. Reverse with solid, soldered hinge, thin round horizontal pin and soldered catch all intact.
