K000789 SIGNAL "8" PENNANT. (Signalwimpel)

BACKGROUND: In the mid-1920's the original German national signal pennants were replaced by the International signal pennants and flags. The International flag code consist of a group of forty flags and pennants with a flag representing each letter of the alphabet, (in English), pennants for each numeral from zero to nine and four substitute or repeater pennants.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Triangular, dual sided, printed cotton construction signaling pennant. Pennant features a white field background with central red cross cross. Coloration and design signify the International flag code for the numeral eight. 100cm x 26cm. Hoist end has white cotton bunting with tunnel looped suspension rope. Nice makers label. Pre-WW2. No eagle over "M" so most probably Merchant Marine or Civilian vessel.
