J015793 (IJA) TYPE 99 RIFLE SLING.
BACKGROUND:
In 1938, the Japanese military gave its contractors authorization to use leather substitutes in the manufacture of enlisted belts, front and rear ammo pouches, bayonet frogs, slings, holsters and other equipment.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Rubberized canvas example. Measures approximately 90cm x 3.5cm. Comes complete with single pronged metal buckle, 2 leather retaining tang and stud. Ten single size adjustment holes. As is typical with the rubberized canvas examples, it is now quite stiff with age. Although just slightly stiff from age, a session with a hair dryer will soften this up so you can attach it to your rifle. As the latex warms it softens and becomes flexible enough to reshape.
