J014793 (IJA) EM/NCO'S "MODEL 1934" CANTEEN.
A olive-drab painted aluminum canteen with a cork stopper and webbed carrying harness. A leather strap passes through the aluminium eye, each end of which has buckling holes which mate with the buckles to either end of the webbed harness. The khaki-colored webbed harness is comprised of two horizontal bands which encircle the bottom and the middle of the canteen, and are connected by a vertical band which is sewn to both their centers and runs underneath the canteen. Vertical bands are also sewn along both sides, whose attached, extended tabs terminate in the aforementioned buckles. The actual end of one of the side bands forms the over-the-shoulder strap, whose other end folds back around itself through a metal sliding adjustment buckle and retaining loop. The formed loop to the latter end in turn feeds through a "D" ring which is attached to the short end of the other side of the harness. The canteen is marked to the bottom. A handwritten name, in kanji, is scratched into the paint of the canteen. The leather strap is dry and fragile at the buckle ends. A section of bent wire is wrapped around the neck of the canteen that is possibly used as a "hook".
