J005484 MANCHUKUO SHRINE FOUNDATION MEDAL 1940.

Having invaded Manchuria in 1931 and established a puppet regime, the occupying Japanese Imperial Kwantung (or Guandong) Army built a shrine known as the National Foundation Sacred Shrine in the national palace in Hsinking to symbolise Japanese imperial power and "Japanese-Manchurian friendship". The shrine was opened on 15 July 1940 and this rare medal was struck to commemorate the event. Circular silvered bronze medal with pierced ball suspension. The face with a shrine in classical style. The reverse inscribed in characters "Kang Teh 7th year / National Foundation Sacred Shrine Foundation Commemorative Medal / 7th Month 15th Day". Original ribbon with original eye and hook. Complete with original case.
