J004093 (IJA) LIEUTENANT COLONEL’S FULL DRESS TUNIC.

An M1894 type full dress frock coat, The black wool, three-quarter length coat has a double-breasted front closure leading to a stand-up collar fastened by dual hooks and eyes. The stand up collar is faced in black wool, against which is sewn a decorative, gold bullion border, with central design. Dual wool loops are sewn to each shoulder, through which the shoulder boards are attached. Thread loops are sewn to the left breast, unto which a medal bar would have been positioned. Each of the seven, highly convex, brass buttons to either side of the front closure have a five-lobed cherry blossom embossed to their obverses. The central eyes to each of their reverses are encircled by a decorative border. A vertical support loop for the sword or bayonet is to the left hip, which is fastened at its top by a version of the buttons seen to either side of the front closure. Each cuff bears three identical buttons which also bears a decorative pattern that establishes the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The reverse of the frock has a tail skirt vent with six matching buttons. A small horizontal pocket runs along the waist seam to the left facing panel of the frock. The interior is fully lined in black rayon, with the exception of the sleeves, which are lined in a striped, white rayon. The lining is quilted from the waist up, and there is a horizontal slash pocket to the right and left breast. The interior collar, which is also lined in black rayon, has five equidistantly-spaced collar studs to it. The chest measures approximately 34".
